November 5 (US Press). Senator John McCain phoned President-elect Barack Obama to congratulate him on winning the election. Obama thanked McCain for a hard-fought campaign. During the call, according to Obama insiders, Obama offered McCain a position in the new cabinet. McCain asked to be assigned to oversee Veteran Affairs. Obama promised to appoint hiim to a senior position in the VA. Obama said, 'John, I would be so honoured with having you serve the US in a prominent role in the next cabinet.' When Sarah Palin's name came up, Obama declined to offer Palin any type of job in DC. Obama would like to move beyond the N-words, racist overtones suggested by Palin.
Later in the day, the press learned that Sarah Palin's husband is filing for separation this week. And another blow for the Palin family, the pending marriage of her pregnant teen-age daughter has been cancelled. Instead the couple will live together after the birth of their child. Said the young-to-be-groom, "we will not get married until we are ready."
The Clintons later joined the Obamas in Chicago for an early breakfast where the two families talked about helping women and middle-class families. President Clinton will be given the task of working with the government in promoting policies to help struggling families. As for Senator Clinton, she will take on a larger role in the US Senate. She will oversee a wider portfolio on women's issues.
Later in the evening, Sec of State Colin Powell will serve in the new cabinet as Secretary of Defense and Warren Buffet will be Sec of Treasury. Buffet said he would only serve for 2 years and then, he wants to return to the private sector.
