Well, Japan has another shot at beating South Korea at the WBC. I was surprised that the US team lost to Mexico and thus, they were eliminated from the next round of games. I had hoped that Canada would have made it to the final. But, baseball is not our sport.
The South Korea - Japan match up should be very interesting. I'll be at home watching the game on Sunday morning/afternoon. I read in the paper that after SK won their last game with Japan, pitcher Seo Jae planted his country's flag in the mound. WTF? Was Jae trying to claim domination over Japan? Was Jae trying to tell the world that South Korea rules baseball? WTF? I strongly believe the South Korea team should have been sanctioned for that poor taste of nationalism. In a highly volatile world, South Korea's flag-planting is no better than .... WTF - what the hell do I care about South Korea. Let them plant all the flags they want.
I always thought sports was about gamemanship. Sportsmanship. Challenges. Planting the flag to me is like a basketball start taunting his opponent by faking a pass to him. Very poor taste. Much on the same level as a footballer retrieving his ball from his opponent's goal and then punting it in again - just to rub shit into the goalkeeper's face.
A black mark on pitcher Seo Jae.
