Could it happen? Possibly.
As Canada is rich with many natural resources, the US would love to get their hands on our country. I would never say 'never' to an eventual or possible US-invasion of Canada. I'm sure the current military leadership of the USA has some attack plans in some locked vault in the Pentagon. Most likely in an attack scenario, the US would drop thousands of soldiers onto Ottawa and seize Parliament Hill. At the same time, tanks would roll across the undefended border that separates the two countries. Should this happen, which countries would come to our defense? Here are some possible allies of Canada.
U.K., France, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Spain
I hestitate to place Japan on the list as I know too well how much the LDP (ruling political party of the country) love the USA.
While I don't think Canada and her future allies could repel an all-out attack by US Armed Forces, I'm sure we can give them some pause in their invasion.
As a result of a possible military conflict between Canada and the USA, I hope the new PM, Stephen Harper, will spend money on rebuilding Canada's military arsenal. And better yet, I hope the PM from Alberta will begin a program of building a nuclear arsenal. No one, I mean 'no one' should ever invade Canada. Canadians are a proud and scrappy bunch.
To the USA: Don't even think about crossing the border.
