The Japanese authorities have in custody William O. Reese who is suspected of murdering a Japanese woman earlier this month. Reese is going to be yelling for a lawyer as the Japanese police keep him up for days on end. No sleep. No water. No bathroom breaks. Nothing. For Reese, he is going to enter the Twilight Zone. The rights Reese thinks he has are gone.
Under Japanese law, the rights of the accused are few and far between. His interrogation will be tough. He will have no access to lawyers. He will have no access to the US Embassy. Or that is unless the US Military have arranged for Reese to be granted special rights.
