Is it any wonder why so many people in the west are beginnning to loathe the country of Pakistan? Read this horrific tale of how the government sanctioned the brutal mental torture of a rape victim. Not only did the government push the rape victim to kill herself, it handed her the 'fucking knife' by encouraging the town's people to do the government's dirty work. Heaven help us all!
If there are any Christians still in Washington D.C., I sure hope that they begin thumping the tables until GW Bush and his Administration take notice. There is no way any GOP congressman or congresswoman who considers himself/herself a God-fearing Christian would tolerate any business or trade to flow between the USA and Pakistan.
Perhaps we should encourage India to invade their neighbour. Heck, what harm could it do? None I suppose.
Passages from the NY Article
Rapes occur in Pakistan at an estimated rate of one every two hours, and the rape itself is only the beginning of the horror. As in much of the world, the victim is frequently expected to atone for her "sin" by killing herself, while her attacker goes unscathed.
Wait there's more in the article that will definitely turn your stomach.
General Musharraf was finding this couple's determination to get justice increasingly irritating. So, Dr. Shazia and Mr. Khalid said, the authorities ordered them to leave the country, and warned that if they stayed, they would be killed - by government "agencies" - and that no one would even find their bodies.
Remember this is coming from a so-called ally in our fight against terrorism. Isn't it funny that the west is willing to turn a blind eye to a government that encourages the murder of rape victims? Just a strange world. I wonder how the politicians in DC can stand by and do nothing to rectify a horrible injustice. Would we condone such actions in the west? Would we allow the US Congress or Canadian Parliament to go around the country 'urging rape victims' to kill themselves? For Chrissakes!
Yet more to make you want to vomit up your lunch.
When Dr. Shazia demanded that Adnan be allowed to accompany her, the officials warned that there was no time and that she would be murdered if she delayed. Then the officials forced Dr. Shazia to make a video recording in which she thanked the government for helping her. And, she said, they warned her that if she had any contact with journalists or human rights groups, they would strike back at her - or at her relatives still in Pakistan.
"They said, 'We know where your family is here,' " Dr. Shazia recalled. "I'm very scared and concerned about my family and their safety. But I believe we must tell the truth, and I have entrusted my family to God."
Just another reason why I will never ever set foot in that country.
