In today's NY editorial column, Herbert explores the 'fantasy of war' as told to the public by the White House's Band of Merry Men and Women. The band told the public what they wanted to hear: the war in Iraq would be easy, fast and uneventful. Well, at least the public now knows that 'sales pitch' was just that - a sales pitch. Nothing more, nothing less.
If the US is ever to recover from the events of the war, the entire country will need to take a deep look into their hearts and souls. Whether the populace continue to support the White House and politicans, that is their choice. But, the public needs to get behind the soldiers still in Iraq and demand that the politicians do their duty of bringing each and everyone of those overseas back home safe and unharmed. Anything less will be a disaster.
So, let's hope the American people will stand up and let their voices be heard in D.C. Bring the troops home and leave the country of Iraq to their own people.
