I wonder if any think tank has put together a study of the costs of not imposing the immediate execution of first degree murderers. I read somewhere that people sentenced to death often sit on death row for more than 10 years as defense teams try to either get the death sentence rescinded or the conviction overturned. I understand that several high profile cases involving wrongly accused and convicted people have been released from prison after 15+ years behind bars. Lives have been shattered. Families have fallen aparat.
In my mind, I strongly believe that the death penalty should be imposed on those heinous crimes which the jury deems as horriific. Crimes when there is undenyable proof of the person's guilt. Consider this situation: a gunmen attempts to rob a bank. He is confronted by the police at the front door. The robber shoots a hostage in the head and then, guns down a policeman in broad daylight. The sentence: death. Execution of that sentence to by carried out no later than 24 hours from the time of the reading of the verdict.
Just think about how much money, society could save!!!! No feeding and clothing costs. Just the cost of dropping a gas pellet.
