The Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister has placed Iran 'on notice' for its inaction in determining what happened to a Canadian journalist in the custody of the Iranian intelligence agency. I suspect that Iran does not really care what Canada does or plans to do unless Canada requests the US government to drop a few bombs on the country. Unfortunately, the relationship between Canada and her neighbour to the south has become quite strained over the past few years.
The US, currently under the leadership of GW, will most likely be unwilling to help Canada in this time of dire straits. As such, Canada is forced to take Iran on its own. I do not know what Paul Martin plans on doing to force Iran to comply to the demands set out by Foreign Affairs Minister Pettigrew but, I sure hope Martin does something quickly. Iran has made killed one of us and is telling the Canadian government to 'take a flying leap'.
While Canadians may not wish to pursue a military option here, I suspect every country is watching to see what the Canadian government will do in order to protect her own citizens abroad. If the Paul Martin-government is unwilling to protect Canucks around the world, who do we turn to for protection? The UK? The US?
The ball is clearly in Paul Martin's corner: let's see what he does about Iran killing a Canadian in cold blood.
