Oh boy, what an adventure today! I woke up at 06:00 to get ready for my journey into Tokyo and to the Tokyo Immigration Office. The new immigration office is located just off of Shinagawa Station. So, I had to take the Yamanote Line. Big mistake.
All the trains were late due to the inclimate weather. The trains leaving Shinjuku Station were about 10 minutes late. By the time, we arrived at Shinagawa Station, it was about 30 minutes later. There were so many delays between Shibuya and Osaki. Lots of problems on the platforms. The train ahead of us had to do an emergency stop as one of the passengers fell ill while on the train. They had to call paramedics to yank the person off the train. Yikes!
The trains were so crowded that I knew the woman behind me was not wearing a bra. She was pasted right to my back. Gee, I hate it when the trains are so crowded. I don't think JR is so concerned with the safety of the passengers when so many people force their way onto the train. What should have taken one hour to get to Shinagawa Station took more than ninety minutes.
At Shinagawa Station, the taxi stand area at the Konan Exit was moved about one hundred metres away. With the bad weather, the line for taxis was about 40 people long. Waited for five minutes and then, ran over to the bus stop which was about 100 metres away. The bus for the immigration centre is right next to the NTT building. It costs 200 yen to take the bus. The immigration centre is about five minutes away.
Once at the building, I had to go to the reception area to pick up the proper document to complete and submit upstairs. They have set up a special section, Permission Stamp, to transfer the visa and the re-entry permit into the new passport. The entire process took only five minutes. The immigration staff told me that I had to go to city hall and report the changes within fourteen days. Decided to head back home to finish the entire process. So, I had to travel for another sixty minutes.
